balanced and fair legislative and regulatory arena is critical
to the generic pharmaceutical industry. Barr places substantial
emphasis on maintaining a leadership role in state and federal
government, representing the interests and needs of consumers
in the formulation of legislative and health care policies.
Additionally, Barr directs significant management time and financial
resources toward government affairs activities related to generic
pharmaceuticals and toward ensuring that the generic pharmaceutical
industry speaks with a single voice on issues related to preserving
and expanding access to affordable prescription medicines.
Over the
past five years, Barr has been a leader in federal and state-by-state
efforts to ensure that consumers have increased access to generic
medicines. The Company has also taken a strong position in opposing
efforts by special interests to use Congress and the regulatory
arena to erect barriers to the availability of generic pharmaceuticals.
The Company
maintains a full-time government affairs department in Washington,
D.C., which has responsibility for coordinating state and federal
legislative activities and coordinating with the generic industry
trade association.
